A Look at the Research Paper Styles
26
August
2008

There are several different research paper styles.  You will likely come into contact with most, if not all, of them during the course of your academic career.  After all, you are going to be writing quite a lot of essays and research papers.  So, whether you are at that point already or are simply preparing for college, familiarizing yourself with the different styles can be very beneficial.

First of all, there is the APA writing style.  APA stands for American Psychological Association.  If you are taking any sociology, psychology, or anthropology courses, you will definitely be working with this type of research paper format.  It is most commonly used in both the social sciences and general sciences.  If you are going to rank it, then it is probably the second biggest and widely used of all the research paper styles.

Of all the styles, the MLA style is probably the most “popular” – or at least the most common   MLA stands for Modern Language Association, so as you might imagine, this is generally used in literature and English courses.  In some cases, some subjects and courses under the social sciences heading use MLA as well.  It is pretty much a guarantee that your freshman literature professor will help you familiarize yourself with this type of research paper format.

Other research paper styles include the Chicago style, the Harvard style, and the Turabian style.  If you have not noticed yet, these are all citation formats.  In general, these three are seen less often than APA and MLA.  Of the three, Chicago is probably the most common, or at least the most widely recognized.

Odds are, every professor you have will have his or her own preference concerning research paper format.  Usually, during your first year in college, your first literature professor will also either require or recommend some type of reference book.  This book will have comprehensive information on the MLA, APA, and Chicago styles for certain, and will likely cite examples of the other styles as well.  You will be able to see, step by step, how to set up in text citations, foot notes, your bibliography page, your cover page, and you will even see how to properly number the pages of your essays and research papers.

For instance, in research papers that use the MLA style, when you number your page, your last name has to go beside it.  There is a specific format necessary for your bibliography page, and your cover page has to be set up just so.  With APA research papers, the in text citations are set up differently than in MLA, and when you number your pages, you put the title of the paper beside the number, rather than your last name.

The very reason it is important to be familiar with all the different research paper styles is because they are so different.  Knowing the differences down to the smallest details can help you from making mistakes during the research paper editing process.  Furthermore, you will be far less likely to mess up during the research paper writing period – that is, you will not screw up your in text citations or quote anything incorrectly.

Critical Analysis Research Paper Styles
24
August
2008

Today we are going to discuss the elements of the critical analysis research paper. Before doing so, however, it is important to understand exactly what it is. There are many different research paper styles. This is only one. For a lot of people, the critical analysis is actually the easiest style to o understand. Basically, it is used to explain or defend an idea or argument about a specific work. You are interpreting the literature on an analytical level, which simply means that you need to be thorough. Being meticulous is necessary because critical analyses are supposed to raise meaningful questions and pinpoint thought provoking issues about your argument.

Now then, the first step in critical analysis research paper writing is choosing the topic. In many cases, your professor will tell you exactly what you need to write about, or else he or she will give you a broad topic that you are allowed to narrow down on your own. Whatever the cases, there are many opportunities to craft really interesting research papers when you are doing an analysis. Generally, you will be dealing with a primary aspect in a short story, a novel, a play, a poem, et cetera. You have to back up your ideas and arguments with specific examples from the work in question.

There are many research paper styles to this end as well. For example, you might choose to do a character analysis. If so, you need to discuss how the character you choose to write about is disclosed, developed, et cetera. What is the character’s biggest, most distinguishing trait or feature? How does his or her actions blend in with the theme of the store?

The point of view critical analysis research paper is a popular choice as well. Basically all you have to do is discuss the work’s point of view, especially in terms of how the approach affects the entire work and how it relates to the theme.

You can also analyze the setting of the work. This involves the physical location(s), the period of time the work takes place, the social environment, et cetera.

You can also discuss the theme itself, and/or the central ideas of the work about which you are writing. This involves defining the theme and analyzing the way the author developed it. Typically, you will need to discuss how the theme relates to the four areas of the human experience: the nature of humanity; of society; of humankind as it relates to the world; and of ethical responsibility.

You can also analyze the work’s specific problems or issues. By the same token, you may decide to discuss the major conflicts in the story. You can also adopt the compare and contrast structure of a critical analysis research paper. It is one of the easiest research paper styles. As well, the subject of symbolism frequently makes for very interesting research papers.

As you can see, writing a critical analysis research paper does not have to be difficult at all. If anything, it is a rather simple form of writing. The research paper format used will generally follow the five paragraph essay structure, but even when it does not, the format can be clean, concise, and rather simple itself. As always, if you are having difficulty, you can find research paper help from your professors, in the library, and even on the internet.

Should I Buy a Research Paper for Sale?
23
August
2008

Sometimes the temptation to look into a research paper for sale is too strong to resist.  In this case, the pertinent questions are: should you give into that temptation; and, if you decide to, what exactly should you look for to find a reputable seller?  Some people pay a peer to write their paper, some look for research paper writing services.  If you do decide to go with one of these options, there are indeed several things you need to consider.

You cannot just purchase any research paper for sale if you decide not to write it yourself.  For instance, if you just look for someone or some service that is cheap and fast, you could end up with a really crappy paper, to put it bluntly.  In that case, you have both wasted money and, more importantly, but your grade in jeopardy.

Some writing services out there offer legitimate and respectable research paper help, there is no denying that.  However there are more than a few which are not only not legitimate, but are down right fraudulent as well.  There are many writers and services out there who do not care about your grade at all.  They care only about getting paid and are perfectly willing to sell you a paper that turns out to be plagiarized.  Losing money becomes the absolute least of your problems at that point.  The best case scenario is that you get an F for that paper.  However, you could also get an F for the entire semester in that course.  You could get kicked out of that course for the semester altogether.  You could get put on academic probation.  Or, as is the case with quite a lot of universities, you could just get asked to leave the college for good.  Would you really want something like that on your record?  Some research paper writing services may indeed take plagiarism lightly, but it is a guarantee that your school does not.  It does not matter whether you are in high school or in college, whether you have a principal or a dean.  Neither your teachers nor your professors take plagiarized papers lightly either.  In quite a lot of universities, in fact, professors require you to submit your paper to online plagiarism sites designed to make sure that none of the content is duplicated.

When legitimate, respectable writing services have a research paper for sale, they will stand by it.  That is, they will go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied.  They will have detailed information concerning the writers working for that particular service, including their individual areas of expertise, applicable degrees, et cetera.  The best of these will even allow you to be in contact with the person writing your paper.  They take research papers extremely seriously, which makes them an excellent source of research paper help if you simply cannot write your own paper, for whatever reason.

You should not buy a research paper for sale from a place that does not promote good research paper ideas either.  Before you decide on going this route, however, you should consider, among other things, getting your hands on a research paper template.  This may be able to help you understand the research paper writing process yourself, so that you will not have to rely on someone else to write the paper for you.

Possible Topics for a Macbeth Research Paper

August
2008

First of all, if you have the opportunity to write a Macbeth research paper, your humble author envies you quite a lot. Shakespeare is terrific fodder for the most interesting research papers you can imagine. The Bard’s works are actually able to make research paper writing fun.

Does that sound hard to believe? Then you just do not realize all the potential that a Shakespeare research paper has! Shakespeare is responsible for some of the greatest literature of our time, no contest. He is responsible for the most comedic comedies and the most tragic tragedies. He is responsible for making historical events supremely interesting.

In a Macbeth research paper alone, there are numerous, solid, and ultimately intriguing research paper ideas – you just have to think about what interests you best. Trust, it should not be very hard to make a decision. Consider this: in Macbeth there are, among other things, conspiracies, betrayals, homicidal plots, insanity, and a successful (somewhat!) murder. How could you not be interested in such things?

That being said, here are some possible ideas you could use to craft an excellent Macbeth term paper, beginning with an overall analysis of the play. For general, analytical research papers, you can choose just about anything as long as it applies to the subject at hand. In this instance, you could go with any one of the major or minor themes rampant throughout Macbeth. That includes themes such as prophecies, heresy, temptation, and the ultimate weight of guilt.

As for more in depth research paper ideas, what about discussing the supernatural aspects in the play? The most famous, supernatural based scene in “the Scottish play,” as it is known on the stage, involves the infamous three witches – double, double, toil, and trouble! There is also the scene wherein Lady Macbeth “hallucinates” immovable bloodstains on her fair hands.

As a matter of fact, you could also take a look into why it is such bad luck for directors, producers, actors, stage hands, et cetera, to refer to the play as Macbeth when they are putting on a stage production. It is said that to do so could bring about a curse, for one thing. That is why it is always referred to simply as “the Scottish play.”

Macbeth is a very descriptive play. The language is extremely vibrant, though dark. It is full of decadent imagery. Other possible research paper ideas involve examining said imagery, specifically the violence inherent in the play. In a way, Macbeth is even more violent than Hamlet, which is saying a lot, since pretty much everyone – big characters and bit players – are dead by the end of the last scene.

Just about any Shakespeare research paper can involve a discussion on good versus evil, and Macbeth is no exception. Macbeth emerges a noble, honorable, honest, and brave man at the beginning of the play. Over the course, he transitions into a craven, cowardly, and treacherous shell of his former self. You could discuss that transition, specifically what you consider the turning points and catalysts that turn him from a noble man into a pitiful one.

And these are just some of the topics around which you could craft a Macbeth research paper. When you are dealing with something that truly interests you, research paper writing becomes less an ordeal, more an opportunity. Some of the most interesting research papers imaginable revolve around Shakespeare’s legendary plays. Do not let an opportunity like this pass you by, simply because you think it is a drag.

High School Research Paper Topics

2008

There are a veritable bevy of high school research paper topics out there.  But how do you know if you are choosing a good one?  Research papers are crafty little devils, they have to be set up right.  In some ways, high school research papers are the most difficult, because they represent your first tastes of researching and extensive writing.  So how do you make it work?  Well, actually, that is a relatively easy feat.

Unfortunately, one of the first steps for choosing good high school research paper topics is getting the ones you are most interested in approved by your teacher.  This should not be too hard, especially as you get into the upper grades.  Sometimes, ninth and tenth grade teachers are not a fan of high school research papers which are controversial, however.  The good news is that once you get up to your junior and senior years, and especially if you are involved in AP and Honors classes, those teachers are generally of the opinion than the most interesting research papers are controversial ones.

Step two involves hitting the library.  Naturally, research papers involve a lot of research.  In fact, most of the research paper writing process will be spent on that.  After all, once you have found plenty of sources, you have to begin the dreaded process of note taking.  Remember, do not forget your source cards either.

Generally, high school research papers have to come with an outline – i.e., that has to be included when you hand in the final draft.  High school research paper topics are also dependent on making sure that you have chosen a subject on which you will be able to find a lot of information.

Actually, a lot of teachers also ask that you include your note cards – all of your note cards.  In fact, they typically assign the note cards right along with the research papers.  You have to have them, which can be extremely tedious.  Trust, however, you will be glad they made you do that once you have gotten down the knack for writing interesting research papers.

Research paper writing depends on the topic you have chosen.  If you pick someone you are not the slightest bit interested in, your paper is going to suffer for it quite a lot.  It is also an extensive process.  In addition to writing several drafts, you are going to need to edit.  A lot.  And then you need to go back and edit some more.  After that, you need to go back and proofread at least twice, and then ideally, someone else should edit and proofread your research papers for you as well.  That way you can be absolutely sure that you have not screwed up a calculation there or anywhere else.

High school research paper topics can help you more than you realize, especially later on down the line.  The things you learn when writing research papers are extremely invaluable.  Research paper writing can help you later on with term paper and dissertation writing, not to mention editing and proofreading.  Furthermore, you learn how to sniff out a really good topic when writing high school research papers.  That prepares you for the things you will encounter in college.  Remember that, and such assignments will not seem quite so burdensome — and you will be equipped to come up with good research paper topics in college as well!

Essay Prompts and Research Papers

August
2008

Essay prompts are one of the best, most beneficial tools for research paper writing available to you.  This may seem hard to believe, especially when you are sitting in class, bored out of your mind, and groaning as your teacher gives you yet another essay prompt.

Essay prompts are most common in high school, though they are not entirely uncommon in college either.  They are especially common in early college courses, namely freshman and sophomore English classes.  The point is, you will be seeing a lot of them in your academic career, and going off to college does not necessarily mean you will be rid of them.  Think of it this way, however: whether you are in high school or college, you are going to be writing a lot of essays and research papers.  Repeat: you are going to be writing a lot of them.

Believe it or not, essay prompts are wonderful when it comes to teaching you how to craft good research paper topics.  There are an incredible amount of interesting and even controversial prompts.  They ask thought provoking, specific questions.  Certainly, you might get some simplistic ones, asking you to perhaps compare actual, written letters with emails or conversations with text messaging.  However, there are also prompts asking for your opinions on abortion, animal testing, stem cell research, and any number of other similar topics.

Do you see a theme?  You should – namely that some of those prompts and others like them would make for some very interesting research paper topics.  At the very least, you will learn what kind of elements and information you need to create good research paper topics.  You will know how deeply you need to go in your research papers, what kind of questions you need to ask, and other elements essential to the process of research paper writing.

In fact, this is what your teachers and professors are doing when they hand you essay prompts – and yes, even when they spring them on you with no warning whatsoever.  A sudden, “pop” essay is a veritable nightmare for a lot of students, but promise, your teachers are not doing it to torture you.  They are teaching you to think on your feet, to craft a good, strong essay as quickly as you possibly can.  Essays and research papers are two different things, of course, and you will never have to do that with any research papers.  However, that will help you to get down an outline for your paper as quickly as possible, and even to write rough drafts quickly, which will help you tremendously later on in your scholastic course.

Using Personal Essay Topics in Research Papers

2008

Personal essay topics can help you tremendously, all through the course of your academic career.  In particular, they can be very beneficial when you move on to writing research papers.  For those of you who have experienced personal essay writing, this may be hard to believe.  However, think of some of the in depth, invasive, and even controversial topics you have been given.  It is safe to say that, if you used those topics as a guideline to develop a stronger, more sound thesis, it would be perfect for both more serious essays and research papers.

Just as the term suggests, when you write personal essays, you are writing about something you have experienced or you are giving your opinion on an issue.  Personal essay topics are generally seen in middle school and high school but they are a great tool for college courses as well, especially the English and Literature classes you have during your first and second years.  In all of those institutions, they are a favorite tool for teachers to use in order to get to know you.  They will get to know about you as a person as well as a student, in addition to learning about your writing skills.

Before we go on, a little discussion about possible personal essay topics is definitely beneficial.  You can generally spot a personal topic from a mile away, especially if they include any of the following terms:

•    “Tell about.”  Example – Tell about a frightening experience you had when you were a child.  How did you feel?  What specifically was frightening?

•    “Describe.”  Example – “Describe a meaningful event in your life.  Was it positive or was it negative?  Why do you think it affected you so much?”

•    “Relate.”  Example – Relate an occasion in which you were very uncomfortable.  What made you uncomfortable?  How did you cope with it?

How can such things help you in research paper writing?  It is quite simple really.  Think about it – in research papers, you have to tell about something.  You have to describe something.  You have to relate something to someone else.  Personal essays are, again, a tool.  In addition to teaching you about all the technical aspects of writing, they also equip you to craft good research paper topics yourself.  You will learn about what kinds of questions to ask and to answer.

Basically, personal essay topics can teach you how to write interesting research papers.  Mind you, you will not learn how to do so overnight.  In fact, you will probably have to write a lot of personal essays and go through a lot of topics.  Still and all, they do lay down the right foundations.  You have to start somewhere, after all, and both your high school teachers and the college professors you have early on are trying to help you.  They are attempting to groom you for the more intensive, more tedious, more involved research paper writing and academic writing you will be seeing quite soon.

Choosing History Research Paper Topics
16
August
2008

Research papers on history – they are something any student has to worry about, whether you are in middle school, high school, or college, so learning how to pick good history research paper topics early is a very good idea.  There are a number of factors to consider in this area, from era to region.  For the purposes of this post, we are going to discuss high school research papers.  After all, that is when your teachers really start grooming you for the meticulous writing processes involved in creating college level papers.

You may think that history papers and interesting research papers but that is not true at all.  Even the history subjects you cover in high school can make for extremely intriguing papers.  However, in order to create an interesting paper, naturally you have to consider interesting history research paper topics as well.  Furthermore, if you are not interested in the topic, your paper is going to show that.  Even if your teacher hands you a list of topics, try to choose the one that piques your interest the most.  If none of them do, talk to your teacher and simply explain that you would really like to do your paper on a different topic.  The two of you could come up with one together or, failing that, promise to think of topics on your own and submit them for approval.  Most teachers will not react unreasonably to such requests.  They may however try to get you interested in one of the supplied topics, but do not be resistant.  Your teacher knows more about history than you do, and he or she might be able to name off a little known fact about a particular even that could make all the difference to you.

One of the most important things to consider when choosing possible history research paper topics is to make sure that the subject upon which you decide is manageable.  Especially with papers in high school, you will likely be on a very stringent time schedule.  You have other work to do in your history class all semester, not to mention all your other classes.  When teachers supply high school research paper topics, they are designed to be manageable within the given time frame.  Take that into account – that is, if you go with creating your own topic, take a cue from some examples.

Any possible topics need to meet a few criteria as well.  They need to ask a relevant, sound question about history.  They need to interpret any connections between the topic and the references you choose.  Finally, they need to present an organized, well structured, and strong thesis.  Good research paper topics always contain these factors; history papers differ only in that they have to be specifically relevant to history.

It is not difficult to learn how to build good history research paper topics.  The habits you learn while writing high school research papers will do you well as you continue your education.  For that matter, they will help you with every subject, not just history.

2008

When going for your general education diploma, you can greatly benefit from reviewing possible GED essay topics before you take the test.  Not only will you know what to prepare for but you also decrease your chances of test anxiety.  Furthermore, when you become skilled at writing essays on the fly, it will later help you with such things as research papers, term papers, dissertations, et cetera.

How can practicing with GED essay topics help you with other essays and research papers?  Easy – you are honing your craft, sharpening your skills, getting accustomed to the entire writing process.  The core difference between essays and high school research papers or those written in college is that you will have much more time to write those.

Essays often have to be written right away, at your teacher’s whim or your professor’s fancy.  Practicing with essay prompts can help you learn how to get ideas down quickly – and to write even quicker!  The point being, this will later help you to come up with good research paper ideas in the blink of an eye.

So then, a little bit about the structure and purpose of GED essay topics is in order.  You generally only have a set amount of time to write these essays – usually forty five to fifty minutes or thereabouts.  After it is written, the GED evaluators will be looking for several things in order to determine the overall quality and effectiveness of your essay.  They will be looking for sound, solid points that have a strong focus.  They will be looking for a clear sense of organization and organizational skills.  They will be reviewing, especially, they way you have developed your ideas and arguments.  Lastly, they will examine your grasps of grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, and the way you structure your sentences in general.

As well, you will be given a topic about which to write.  You can never be sure about what you are going to get, but here are a few general examples of common essay topics:

•    you may be asked to describe the best period of your life and to explain why it was so good;

•    you may be asked to describe mistakes you have made in your past and what you have learned from them, or to think about a time in your life where you generally wish you had done something differently and to explain why;

•    you may be asked to write an essay around your favorite hobby, why you like it, how it is advantageous to you, et cetera;

•    you may be asked to talk about someone who is extremely important to you, for positive or negative reasons, and how they have influenced your life.

There are virtually a ton of GED essay topics out there, just waiting for you to find them.  Practice!  You may not get the topics you have practiced will, but you will be quite skilled in writing a quality essay in a short period by that time.  Furthermore, learning how to answer the questions which make these essays good will be invaluable when it comes to later thinking up good research paper topics.

The Key to Choosing Informative Research Topics
14
August
2008

Very often, the hardest part of writing research papers is finding good, informative research topics.  There are many reasons this is difficult.  In any given subject, there are virtually hundreds of ideas from which could can choose – but not all of them will be right for you.  It is thus incredibly important to consider a number of factors before deciding on a final topic.

You have to realize that beginning good habits early will benefit you all through your academic career.  Being able to craft thought provoking research topics is invaluable.  It will not only help you with research papers, but with term papers, essays, and dissertations as well.  Choosing interesting research paper topics is not that difficult once you get the basic idea of how to do so.  You simply have to be willing to discipline your way of thinking.

In order to craft good research paper topics, you are going to have to do a few things.  To start with, of course, you have to brainstorm.  Think about what kind of things interest you, as they pertain to the class for which the paper is being written.  Often, your teacher or professor may assign research topics, though this is more typical in middle school and high school than in college.  However, very rarely is every student assigned a single topic.  You will generally have at least a few from which to choose, so in that case, pick the ones which interest you the most.  If you have not been assigned a particular topic, or the requirements are broad, there are a number of questions you can ask yourself that will help you come up with a good topic.  For instance, think about social and political events about which you have a strong opinion.  Think about news stories that made you feel very strongly, whether it made you feel angry, anxious, happy, relieved, et cetera.  Has something covered in class particularly inspired you?

After you have picked a few favorite ideas, then you need to start looking into them.  When writing essays and research papers, sorry to say, the research begins before you ever start writing.  You need to get background information on the topics in which you are most interested.  Otherwise you could end up deciding on a final topic that is either too narrow or too broad to write about successfully.  Therefore, you also need to make sure that any potential research topics are manageable in the time allotted for the assignment.

Another key to creating good research topics is ultimately choosing one that you can turn into a very focused, very pointed question that can be answered in the paper.  Interesting research papers are dependent on interesting research paper topics.  You cannot have one without the other.  You might be a natural at coming up with good topics, but if not, you can still make yourself an expert at it.  Rest assured that your hard work will pay off, especially as you continue your scholastic journey.
